Are Agents Tired of Fangs & Fur? Trends

Young Adult writers / readers, I just read *another* agent interview that discouraged  Fangs and Fur books. Booo. Yeah, we love this stuff! Especially when folks turn into giant dogs, or the bad guys are really good guys with fangs. And yes, I still watch The Vampire Diaries. Fangs/Fur fiction is not bad when it is unique and has compelling conflict in it.

Another genre that is overused is Dystopian ( Hunger Games, fallen government themes). I say, 'good riddance' to this one. Other warmed-over themes: mermaids, snarky girls.

So, what trend should you explore? Which books are getting picked up by agents and publishers?

Read what agent Nicole Resciniti said in the Writer's Digest  January 2012 interview.

LITERARY AGENT INTERVIEW: NICOLE RESCINITI

Nicole says:

"I would love to see more romance (all genres) and sci-fi/fantasy/UF. I’ve found most of my clients through slush, so I’m a huge fan of it. My e-mail inbox is a virtual scratch-off ticket, and every e-mail I open could be a big winner. I request the first five pages pasted into the body of the e-mail. It is always my greatest hope that I’ll start reading and won’t want to stop. When that happens, I immediately request the partial or complete."

I WONDER WHAT GENRES WILL BE TOAST IN 2013????
