Beagle blues

Lordy, Lordy.
Revising or reworking a Work in Progress is grueling. Specially when you're taking care of a new doggie. Our daughter has parked her beagle with us for the last five days. He is young and needs LOTS of attention and exercise. We love him, but he def. takes lots of my time.

Rescue dog, digging fool, crazy walker--brings life into our grown up home.

Some day I'll write about you, Nels.
But today, I need to finish my WIP!

  1. Doggie sounds like a busy body making everyone else busy bodies as well...and probably too adorable :-)

  2. How old is the beagle? My vet gave me a great recommendation (for when my beagle was really young and squirrel-y with excess energy). I bought a doggy backpack (at the pet store) and a couple of small, 1 lb weights. I put one weight in each side of the backpack and then walked her. It was a great idea. Before the backpack, I'd walk her 2x a day, 2 hours, and she'd still be super nuts. With the backpack, I cut that time in half and she was still way calmer than she was before.

Now that she's almost 4 years old, it's not necessary, but that backpack totally saved my sanity when she was a puppy ;)

    1. Beagle backpack-Ha! That does sound like a good idea that I could try. He might not pull my arm out of socket that way. ;-)

    2. Ah, yeah, I got a half-choak collar for when I taught her to walk properly. Whenever she'd start to yank, I'd stop dead in my tracks and say, 'don't tug'.

Since it was a half-choak, it had the slack so it wouldn't jolt her around the neck like a regular collar, but it would also tighten (but not too much) if she continued to press forward.

Now I can walk her on an extendo-leash and give her the command 'don't tug' when she gets near the end, she'll slow down.

    3. Cool. I've never heard of a half-choke collar. It sounds perfect for our boy.
